Students can audition for the middle school play/musical in the fall and this show is often directed by a student from the Theater Management class. Students in the high school audition for the Spring musical anticipating their nominations for the production from the Count Basie Awards. HHRS has received three Basie awards in the five years in the competition: Best Student/Adult Orchestra; Best Actress in a Musical and a special award for Showmanship in the face of extreme hardship-”the show must go on” award. With the addition of new technology and professional costuming, the productions are well done and enjoyable to all.
